Pornima of Bharatiya Ashadh month (the 15th day of Indian calendar month Ashadh) has a special aspiring significance in Bharatiya (Indian) culture. Particularly disciples have high regards, an unconditional devotion and attachment for this day. Every devotee strives for this day, as he/she worships his/her Guru (Teacher/Master) with utmost love and surrender. He expresses his full gratitude towards his Guru who is a dispeller of darkness, of ignorance. He is a realized soul. Lord Bhagvan Shri Krishna in 34th verse of 4th chapter of Geeta says “attain this knowledge by all means, if you prostate yourself at the feet of wise, render them all forms of services and question then a guileless heart again and again, those wise souls of truth will unfold that wisdom to you.”
The meaning of Guru is “Gu” means darkness and “Ru” means light. The dispeller of darkness by giving enlightment is “Guru”. For a disciple, a life which was boredom is elevated to freedom, for he has attained the kingdom of god within. All this is due to the grace of Guru who took the disciple slowly to the inner chambers of his own heart and showed him the goal of life which is God.
This blessed of ultimate truth is impossible without Guru. All saints & Rishis have affirmed this truth through their verse. If we refer Bhartiya history through our “Puranas”, we observe that Shri Prabhu Ram Chandra has his Guru Vashistha Rishi, Shri Bhagvan Shri Krishna had Angiras as his Guru. Even the Lord Dattatreya who is a crown of lineage, also had 24 Gurus. In short Guru has a unique, unparallel importance in life of a disciple. And disciple expresses his utmost gratitude for receiving these blessings by worshiping his Gurudev on this occasion of “Guru Pornima”.
“Guru Pornima” is also known as “Vyasa Pornima” as Shri Maharshi Krishna Dwaparain*Vyasa has contributed in significant manner to Bharatiya culture as well as Sanatan Dharma. He has also stream lined all Vedantic literature, Upanishadas, 18 Puranas and 5th Veda – the Mahabharata. His contribution in the field of literature is of such a vast magnitude that, it is said that there is nothing which he has not referred. Considering this aspect, every respected soul blessing knowledge is worshiped in form of “Guru” on this aspiring day.
As cited earlier, Lord Shri Bhagvan Shri Krishna has cited to prostate ourselves at the feet of wise and render them all forms of services. Hence in partial fulfillment of the same, disciples offer Gurudakshina on this occasion of Gurupornima.
As we all know that, our Gurudev Yog Tapasvi Param Pujya Shri Narayankaka Dhekne Maharaj never accepts services, gifts, money or any sort of material gifts. He is only striving to reach every corner of the world to spread the message of Purvabhyasa of Siddhayoga (Introductory Meditation of Siddhayoga).
Hence what we all disciples can offer him, as Gurudakshina is, the earnest spread of Purvabhyasa of Siddhayoga wherever we are in the world.
